A further date to note on your calendar is that on Saturday, November 11 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM . The Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award Presentation will be made at the Renaissance Hotel. Originated by the Louis Lipinsky family and now also supported by Michael Sartisky, PhD, the Award has been presented annually for printed works that focus special attention on Western North Carolina since 1955, when the WNC Historical Association and the Lipinsky family of Asheville presented the first Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award to Wilma Dykeman for The French Broad. The 2016 Winner was Terry Roberts for That Bright Land.
A reception, generously sponsored by the Renaissance Hotel, will follow the award program allowing guests the opportunity to engage in conversation with the award winner, as well as the finalists for the coveted award and its accompanying prize of $1,500.
The winner of the Thomas Wolfe Award along with the finalists will be announced in early October. Make plans now to attend the program in November as this event will sell out. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling the Smith-McDowell House Museum at 828-253-9231. Tickets are $10.00 for the General Public and $5.00 for WNCHA members.
