The 5th annual Hunter Subaru LPC Throwback Triathlon event will be held at the Lelia Patterson Center in Fletcher on Sunday, August 15th, starting at 8 AM. Swim in, Ride On, and Run Out. You swim 200 yards in an outdoor pool; bike, 17.5 miles on a quiet country road, and run 5 kilometers with an on-track finale. Both individuals and relay teams are encouraged to join. It should be a day of fun, with your wearing a “crazy” retro outfit. Awards of locally hand-crafted pottery will be given for overall and age group winners with the ceremony starting approximately at 10:45 AM. Each Splash N’Dash kid will receive a t-shirt, a finisher’s medal and goodies.

The LPC Triathlon is a throwback triathlon. What does this mean? Believe it or not, before the days of bike racks, triathlons and multi-sport events were prominent. The Retro Tri Series take a step back to those days by offering a unique series that highlights the retro allure that once was. Retro attire is encouraged to enhance the experience and atmosphere!

In specific, the Throwback Triathlon is a multi-sport event for athletes of many ages and experience levels that combines swimming, biking, and running. Although it is not required, events may be timed; the focus is on participation rather than competition.

The kid’s, splash and dash, multisport event follows the full triathlon on Sunday starting at approx. 10:30 AM. Registration is open. The LPC Kid’s Splash N’ Dash, is designed to promote an active, healthy lifestyle for the youth in the Carolinas and to introduce them to multi-sport events. This event will consist of various distances in the sport of aquathlon (swim/run) for three divisions: Beginner, intermediate and advance. More info can be found on www.idaph.net.
