Erwin’s Class of 2016 earns $879,018 in scholarships

The Class of 2016 held its graduation ceremonies June 11 at U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville. This year’s graduating seniors earned a total of $879,018 in scholarship monies with several standouts. Five scholar athletes will play Division I sports in college. Tori Rigsby earned a scholarship for swimming and will be attending Mars Hill University. John Stewart is heading to Brevard College with a scholarship to play golf. Kendra Griffin will be playing basketball for Charleston at West Virginia and Rayonte Mills will be attending Marysville College to play football. Mills will join Marc Peterson who will also play football for Maryville.

A total of 161 students from the graduating class are enrolled in a 4-year university or community college. In addition, several students have chosen to join the military: Luke Sons, Navy; Bailey Scruggs, USMC; Gavin Crandell and Charles Hunter, Army; Leif Menzie and Patrick Jackson, National Guard.
