La Cage Aux Folles is ACT’s Summer Musical: For the first time in its 70 year history, Asheville Community Theatre will present La Cage Aux Folles, the Tony-award winning musical on which Robin Williams’ hit movie The Birdcage was based. Georges and Albin, two men partnered for better-or-worse are shocked when Georges’ son announces his engagement to the daughter of a conservative politician. Because Georges and Albin run a drag nightclub, a complicated situation unfolds: Georges agrees to cover up the “family business” but Albin has other plans. La Cage Aux Folles celebrates love, loyalty and the importance of living an authentic life. La Cage Aux Folles opens June 3, 2016 and runs through June 26, 2016 with performances Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Auditions for Crimes of the Heart: Asheville Community Theatre will hold auditions for the Pulitzer Prize winning Southern comedy Crimes of the Heart on June 6-7, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 pm. Directed by Eric Mills. Auditions are open to all in the community, no previous experience required. All audition material is provided at the auditions. Olde Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge: You’re in the audience for a live game show described as a mix between Wait, Wait…. Don’t Tell Me and Match Game! Olde Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge is a live, unscripted panel show featuring local actors and personalities putting their wits to the test as they try and answer esoteric questions about random topics. Storytelling series Listen to This: June’s theme for the longest running storytelling series in Asheville is “Great, There Goes My Ride: Stories of Being Stranded.” Hosted by Tom Chalmers on June 30, 2016 at 7:30 pm in 35below. For more than 5 years, Listen to This has featured live stories told on stage along with stand-up comedy and original songs – all from local writers, actors, performers, and other interesting folks.
