The Council on Aging of Buncombe will hold a special enrollment event January 9 for people needing assistance to sign up for or renew their health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. The event will be held from 10 am to 3:30 p.m. at the YWCA located at 185 South French Broad Street, in Asheville.

Certified Navigators will be available to assist applicants regardless of age. The service is free and unbiased, as no insurance companies are endorsed or recommended. Walk-ins are welcome.

It is currently open enrollment for the ACA until January 31. To receive coverage starting February 1, applicants must be enrolled by January 15.

Over 91% of North Carolina enrollees receive a subsidy to pay for their health insurance.
