This annual Hendersonville Community Band Fall concert is honoring pieces by all American composers for an easy listening Sunday afternoon certain to complete your autumn weekend. The band is celebrating its first concert of the 25th season of entertaining the community and giving the all-volunteer 75 member musicians a chance to offer beautiful music to our dedicated audiences as well as to our new-to-the-area listeners.
Winford Franklin conducts a variety of music which honors the works of a program of primarily American composers hence the name of the concert title “Made in America.”
Among the pieces are the “Amercan Overture” by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins; “Esprit De Corps” by Robert Jager; a very familiar composition “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber; “Queen City Suite” by Charles Carter; “Infernal Dance and Finale” from the ballet “Firebird” by Igor Stravinsky; “Solas Ane” [Gaelic: Yesterday’s Joy] by Samuel R. Hazo.
The band is excited to be playing “Visions of Flight” by Robert Sheldon a well known band music composer residing in Florida. He will be joining them at the March 6, 2016 anniversary concert to conduct his special composition which he is doing for the band for this celebration.
To round out the band’s program of the “Made in America” concert on Sunday October 18, 2015 , “Sousa!” a modern tribute to the world’s march king, John Phillip Sousa arranged by Warren Barker will be presented.
The Fall concert by the Hendersonville Community Band will be held at the Blue Ridge Community College Conference Hall on Sunday, October 18 at 3 pm.
