Hendersonville Community Band featuring the Blue Ridge Ringers will entertain us with their annual holiday concert on Sunday, December 7 at 3 pm in the Blue Ridge Community College Conference Hall in Flat Rock.
The 65 member band under the direction of Winford Franklin will perform a variety of “Tis the Season” selections familiar to all. A sing-a-long will be among the favorites to enhance that holiday spirit. You will hear the story “Twas the Night before Christmas” like you have never heard before with guest narrator Jamie Hafner who is the Brevard Community Band director.
The Blue Ridge Ringers under the direction of Robert Currier will surely delight you with their 15 member hand bell choir. The Ringers are all accomplished musicians from surrounding counties as well as from South Carolina. They have performed with the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, the Brevard Chamber Orchestra and for many organizations in the area.
The selections which the Ringers have chosen to perform are Dance of the Reed Flutes by Tchaikovsky from the Nutcracker; In the Bleak Midwinter by Gustav Hoist featuring flute soloist Natalie Ambrose from the band; Jolly Old Saint Nicholas; Masters in the Hall, a French carol; Up On the Housetop; Tidings! A Christmas carol fantasy featured with band accompaniment.
Some of the old familiar standards which the band will perform include Good King Wenceslas; The First Noel; An Irving Berlin Christmas; Midnight Sleighride; Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Old Scottish Melody [Old Land Syne]; Ukrainian Bell Carol; Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer in Dixieland style; Tidings! with the bell choir and mallet percussion solos; It’s Christmas, a medley for concert band and a traditional sing-a-long to celebrate the season. A holiday concert would not be complete without Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride to send you on your way for a joyous season with family and friends.2
Tickets are $10 for adults, students are admitted free. They may be purchased from any band member, the Hendersonville Visitor’s Center, Laurel Park Wine Market and at the door the day of the concert.
