Last Thursday the Preservation Society invited all interested to participate in an advocacy photograph in support of preserving the historic Asheville Roundhouse (seen in background). This significant building represents an important time of Asheville’s rich history and is slated to be torn down by Norfok Southern in the near future. Jack W. L. Thomson, Executive Director said “The Preservation Society strongly urges Norfolk Southern to delay the planned demolition of the historic 1928 Asheville Roundhouse, while adaptive reuse and development plans are thoroughly investigated. Being one of two remaining in the state, the Roundhouse serves as a key link to Asheville’s past and the burgeoning development spurred by opening the west to the rest of the state through railroad commerce and transit.” Photo courtesy of William Lawrence for PSABC.
