On Saturday, May 10th there will be a fundraiser for Celebration Singers, a nonprofit community chorus of young singers. This is the 6th annual charity event and will be held at the Black Mountain Golf Course starting at 8:00 a.m. This will be a Captain’s Choice, four person teams with trophies and prices. Ginger’s famous breakfast burritos, snack and beverages will be available, as well as a barbecue lunch from State Street Barbecue. The entry fee is $90 per person. Now in their 7th year, Celebration Singers of Asheville is an auditioned community chorus for young singers ages 7-14, who are talented and committed to excellence. Founded by Artistic Director Ginger Hafelden in 2007 as a 501(c)3 non-profit educational charity and officially endorsed by the Asheville Lyric Opera Vocal Arts Program, Celebration Singers of Asheville presents two concerts a year and sings at many venues with Ginger Hafelden as director.
The final concert of the year will be held on May 18th, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church at 20 Oak Street in Asheville. It will feature the standard honor choir repertoire, Disney songs, classical Vivaldi and Bartok, folk songs, and gospel singing. There will be soloists and joining us on upright bass will be Dr. Vance Reese. Refreshments will be offered after the concert.
In April, 2012 the Celebration Singers performed in Carnegie Hall, and in April, 2013, they performed with The Modern American Music Project in the opera “Dead Man Walking.” In March 2014 nine members participated in an auditioned national choir sponsored by American Organization of Kodaly Educators in Atlanta, Georgia.
