St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Weaverville will be presenting the traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols, 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 4.

The first such service was held Christmas Eve 1918 at historic Anglican King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, England. The service follows a pattern of congregational Christmas carols, choir anthems, and scripture readings related to the birth of Jesus.

St. Matthew’s (stmatthewsweaverville.org) is a 110 year old country Church designed by noted Asheville architect Richard Sharpe Smith and is located at 812 Reems Creek Road, Weaverville, just past Ox Creek Road.

There will be a free will offering for the benefit of typhoon victims in Cebu City, Cebu Island, Philippines.
