The weekend of October 18th-20th, The Daniel Boone Council hosted the first annual gathering of Venturers and Explorers at Camp Daniel Boone in Canton, NC called The Legacy, with participants traveling from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee to attend. The event was entirely youth-planned and supported by vendors and volunteers from across our 14 westernmost counties.
The Legacy invited youth participants in Venturing and Exploring programs, the BSA’s 2 co-educational, youth-driven programs for 14-20 years old. Venturers and Explorers rotated varying high adventure activities and classes throughout the weekend, including gliding across Lake Allen on Nantahala Outdoor Center’s Stand-Up Paddleboards, swinging from the trees with the help of Navitat Canopy Tours, shooting homemade Cherokee bows and arrows, climbing a 38 foot, natural rock wall, shooting rifles and pistols. They participated in a fire building competition, Iron Man Challenge, and backpacking/geocaching race, and got to meet Rob Gudger and his arctic wolf, among other activities.
